Source: Warren Truss, MP – Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss today said the Coalition will provide $314 million to help students with a disability. “Greater support is required for students with a disability. Young Australians and their parents face many barriers to accessing education opportunities that others may take for granted,” Mr Truss said. A Coalition Government will secure national agreement on definitions of disabilities. “National consistent definitions are the first crucial step on the road towards providing greater assistance for all students with disabilities,” Mr Truss said. “Students with a disability will also be supported through portable funding worth up to $20,000 per year. “We will introduce an Education Card providing assistance to almost 6,000 disabled children and their families. The Education Card will provide portable funding so that parents can easily move between schools and school systems and choose an education to help their child to reach their full potential. Mr Truss said the funds would be paid directly to educational institutions bypassing state bureaucracies. The initiatives will deliver resources that will meet the needs of disabled students and enable them to reach their full potential. “This policy will provide real choice for parents and deliver a better education for students with a disability,” Mr Truss said.
